@Mentions

An @mention is the short way to bring a colleague into a conversation. It does the same job as the share panel, from the message you were writing anyway.

Writing a mention

Open the picker

Type @ in the composer, or use the mention button beside it. A list of people opens; typing narrows it.

Pick a name

The name becomes a chip in your message. Mention as many people as the message actually needs.

What happens next depends on the conversation — see below.
Plain @name is the only mention syntax. There is no keyword or prefix that addresses the assistant separately.

What sending does

In your conversation with Abbie

The message goes to Abbie as normal and the people you named are looped in at the same time. There is nothing to choose: the whole surface is a conversation with Abbie, so suppressing her reply is never what a mention there meant.

In an assistant conversation

Sending a message that contains a mention holds the turn and asks first:
It looks like you’ve mentioned someone. What would you like to do?
with two buttons: This appears every time a message contains a mention — it is a deliberate fork, not a guess at ambiguity.

What a mention grants

Mentioning someone adds them to the conversation’s people list, which is the same list the share panel shows.
They are added as an Editor and notified. Being named in a message is an invitation to take part, so it matches the share panel’s own default.
Their level is left exactly as it is — including a deliberately read-only invite. A mention never quietly promotes someone the owner chose to keep as a reader. They are still notified; being told is the point.
A non-owner cannot widen a conversation. Their mentions reach people who can already read it; anyone else is skipped, with a note saying only the owner can share it with someone new.
Nothing happens. There is nobody to add and nothing to tell you.
Account-wide visibility is not enough on its own. Someone mentioned in a conversation the whole account can read still needs their own access level before they can reply in it.

Who you can mention

Active members of your account. Two cases come back as skipped, each with a reason on screen:
  • No longer a member of this account — the person has been removed.
  • Account is suspended — the person is named, so you know who to chase.
Naming the same person twice in one message is one addition and one notification, not two.

Being mentioned

A mention reaches the other person as a Conversation mentions notification, in-app. It names who mentioned you, the conversation, a short excerpt of the message, and links straight to the thread. See Notifications for turning that kind on or off.
