# Corrections

> Standing rules that fix a mistake Abbie made once, so it does not happen again

A correction is a rule for when something went wrong before: *"when I ask for a summary, check the
source document before sending it."* It sits in the Rapport tab, below your personal profile.

Corrections are for behaviour that needs to change. They are not facts — those belong in your
[personal profile](/abbie/teaching/personal-profile) — and not tone preferences, which are
[rapport](/abbie/teaching/rapport). A good correction is a rule that survives being right: it
still makes sense on the occasions Abbie would have got it right anyway.

## The shape of a correction

Each one has two halves:

| Half          | What it is           | Limit          |
| ------------- | -------------------- | -------------- |
| **Situation** | When this applies    | 150 characters |
| **Instead**   | What Abbie should do | 200 characters |

You can hold **up to six** corrections at a time. The cap is deliberate — a long list of standing
rules stops being followed reliably. When you reach it, remove one before adding another.

  The tight limits are a feature. If a rule needs three sentences to express, it is probably a fact
  about how you work — put it in your personal profile — or a whole procedure, which belongs in a
  [skill](/abbie/teaching/skills-library).

## Where they come from

Two sources:

* **You write one** directly in the panel.
* **Abbie proposes one.** Her analyser watches for repeated corrections in conversation, and a
  downvote on a reply in chat feeds the same mechanism.

Anything Abbie proposes lands in a **Suggested by Abbie** queue rather than taking effect. You
**Approve** or **Dismiss** each one. Nothing is applied until you approve it.

## Removing one

**Remove** deletes a correction outright. Corrections are yours, so no admin approval is involved
either way.
